BREAKING: PDP’s Ademola Adeleke wins Osun Governorship Election

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ademola Adeleke, has been declared winner of the Osun State governorship election.

The PDP candidate won 17 out of the 30 local governments in the state, leaving the All Progressives Congress with 13.

Adeleke received 403,371 votes to defeat his closest rival from the APC, Governor Gboyega Oyetola, who polled 375,027votes.

The margin of defeat is 28,344 votes.

The Vice-Chancellor University of Lagos,  Prof Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, the INEC Returning Officer in the state declared the result on Sunday evening at the State headquarters of INEC in Osogbo.

The official results from the 30 local government areas as announced by collation officers at the state headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as at 5.52 am on Sunday indicated that Adeleke won in 17 local government areas with large gap and left 13 local government areas for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), candidate, Oyetola to win.

The INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Prof Abdulganiy Raji, had earlier assured the people of the state that no amount of intimidation and harassment will make the commission compromise on the mandate of the people.

There were 2,934,107 registered voters in the state with 940,211 voters accredited for the election.

No fewer than 15 political parties partook in the election but many believed the election was a two horse race between the candidate of the APC and incumbent governor of the state, Adegboyega Oyetola, and Senator Ademola Adeleke of the PDP.

Other candidates were Akin Ogunbiyi of Accord Party; Lasun Yusuff of Labour Party; Oyegoke Omigbodun of Social Democratic Party; Segun Awojide of African Action Congress; Kehinde Atanda of Action Democratic Party; Awoyemi Lukuman of Allied Peoples Movement; Adebayo Elisha of All Peoples Party; and Adeleke Adedapo of Boot Party.

Also, Rasaq Saliu of New Nigeria Peoples Party; Abede Samuel of National Rescue Movement; Ayowole Adedeji of Peoples Redemption Party; Ademola Adeseye of Young Peoples Party; and Adesuyi Olufemi of Zenith Labour Party.
