PWD Bill: Osun SPAG Lauds Progress, Appreciates Gov Adeleke

Aftermath of the Executive order for expedition of Osun state Person With Disability Bill by Governor Ademola Adeleke, the State Partnership Against Gender Based Violence on Women and Girls with disability SPAG Committee have lauded the approval of the governor.

This is as the SPAG Committee of the EMPOWER Project, a program of Society For Life Changers And Good Parental Care, SOLIFE sponsored by United Nations Entity For the Empowerment of Women (UN-Women) and United Nations Trust Fund to End Violence Against Women applauded the decision taken by Osun government for the Special Needs Community.
The EMPOWER Project Committee made this known in an emergency meeting held after the pronouncement of the Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke at the distribution of mobility aids program, on Tuesday.

Addressing members of the Committee comprising of Ministry of Youths and Special Needs, Ministry of Education, Persons With Disability, Nigeria Service Civil Defence Corps NSCDC, the Nigerian Police Force, among others, the Chairman of Osun SPAG, Ambassador Aremu Stephen Akinyele commended the Committee for the tenacious Advocacy in ensuring the Persons With Disability Bill becomes law in Osun.

Adding that the PWD Bill once passed into law as Prohibition Against Persons With Disability Law will protect, improve and bring development to the life of the clusters of the Special Needs Community in Osun.

Ambassador Aremu specially thanked the EMPOWER Project sponsor; United Nations Entity For the Empowerment of Women (UN-Women) for supporting the project which positively impacted lives of the PWDs, particularly Women and Girls with Disability.

Charging the Osun SPAG on more advocacy to achieve total success of the production of PWD Bill, he also reiterated the objective of the EMPOWER Project to the target beneficiaries.

In her vote of thanks, the Osun SPAG Committee Vice Chairman,
CSP Folashade Odoro patted the committee for consistent advocacy on the plight of women and girls with disabilities, which she said have made good progress.

Commending the unrelenting effort of the Committee she urged that advocacy continues on the directive of Osun Governor on the Ministry of Justice legal framework and relevant stakeholders till the manifestation of the Persons with Disability Bill.

Addressing the committee, the project manager Adeola Falana recalled that the SPAG Committee of the EMPOWER Project of Society For Life Changers And Good Parental Care SOLIFE, as the leading non-governmental organization on Persons With Disability affairs has not rested on its oars in its drive to ensure that, just like other states in Nigeria, Osun State also starts usage of PWDs Law for the Special Needs Community.

She maintained that part of the objectives of the EMPOWER Project is ending violence against women and girls with disability, having access to education, quality healthcare and other basic necessities of life, a right that belongs to them as citizens of the state and country at large.
