Osun NUT Frowns At Sack Rumour Of One Thousand Teachers, It's Not True - Comrade Olatoke

The Osun State Wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has condemned the rumour making the round that the state governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke has concluded arrangement to demote and sack 1000 teachers in the state.

According to the State Chairman of the Union, Comrade Fatade Muritala Olatoke and Secretary, Comrade Adeojo Julius Akinlabi while denying the allegation in a statement issued and made available to newsmen in Osogbo the Osun State capital on Sunday, described the information as a blatant lie in which it is far from the truth.

The Osun NUT said there was never a time the state government is contemplating of demoting 1000 teachers over lack of money or planing half-salary.

According to the allegation making the round, "no fewer than 1000 workers, mostly teachers have been demoted from their current grades to their previous grade and there is a plan by the state government to return workers to modulated salary regime, otherwise known as half-salary plan, in order to manage the rising salary and overhead costs"

The NUT leadership described Governor Adeleke as a teachers friendly who is always pursuing complete welfare of the entire teachers in the state, adding that the issue of reducing numbers of teachers in the state government's school by the governor is not true.

" So, what we are doing now is to ensure government get more teachers to fill the vacancies in some of the school across the state, so there was never a time the Osun State government under the leadership of Senator Ademola Adeleke is thinking of retrenchment or demotion" the statement added.

The NUT Chairman and Secretary urged Mr Governor to expedite action in his efforts to employ more teachers for the state government's schools.

The NUT however enjoined teachers in the state to go about their normal official duty as they should disregard such a false allegation saying they are on top of the situation.
