OSUN STATE GOVERNMENT LAUNCHES "PROJECT 10 MILLION" TO COMBAT HYPERTENSION AND DIABETES

In a bid to address the growing impact of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) in Osun State, the government has launched "Project 10 Million", a comprehensive health initiative aimed at providing free medical check-ups and diagnosis to 10 million Nigerians across the country.

The launch event, held at the Local Government Service Commission in Abere, Osun State, was attended by dignitaries including the Osun State First Lady, Chief Mrs. Titilola Adeleke, and the Commissioner for Health, Barrister Jola Akintola.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), hypertension and diabetes are leading causes of death in Nigeria, accounting for 27% of annual deaths. The "Project 10 Million" aims to change this narrative by providing easy access to health screening and diagnosis.

The project is a collaboration between the Osun State Government and the Nigeria Governors Forum, and is set to run from October 28th to November 3rd, 2024.

At the launch event, free medical check-ups were provided to the public, including tests for hypertension, blood sugar, weight, and height.

The Osun State First Lady, Chief Mrs. Titilola Adeleke, emphasized the importance of knowing one's health status and taking proactive measures to control hypertension and diabetes.

The Commissioner for Health, Barrister Jola Akintola, highlighted the project's theme "Know Your Number, Control Your Number", emphasizing the need for individuals to be aware of their health status and take control of their well-being.

The project's target is to diagnose 10 million Nigerians for hypertension and diabetes across the country, and provide them with the necessary support and treatment.
