TIPS: How To Avoid Electrocution During Rainy Season

As the rainy season sets in, it’s crucial to prioritise safety to avoid electrocution.

The increased risk of electrical accidents during this time highlights  the need for caution.

This is why the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company has urged customers to prioritise safety to avoid electrocution.

The company’s acting Managing Director, Francis Agoha, in an advisory made available to newsmen on Thursday, emphasised the importance of caution during the rainy season, which comes with an increased risk of electrical accidents.

To avoid electrocution, IBEDC offers the following tips:

• Avoid contact with fallen power lines: Heavy rains and storms can cause power lines to fall. Avoid any contact with these lines and immediately report such incidents to IBEDC or your electricity provider’s emergency services.
• Stay clear of flooded areas: Flooded zones pose significant hazards, especially if electrical equipment is involved. Refrain from walking through flooded streets or touching electrical fixtures.
• Inspect your surroundings: Regularly check that your home or business’s electrical connections are secure and shielded from water. Look out for exposed wires or malfunctioning connections.
• Use protective gear: Wear rubber-soled shoes and avoid metal objects when outdoors during heavy rainfall to minimise the risk of electrical accidents.
• Emergency preparedness: Keep the emergency contact numbers of IBEDC or your electricity provider close at hand.
