Hoodlums invade Osun hospital, demand release of colleagues’ corpses

There was confusion at the premises of the Osun State University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo on Wednesday when some suspected hoodlums stormed the hospital to demand unconditional release of some corpses at the hospital’s morgue.

It was gathered that the hoodlums, had arrived the hospital around 9:00am and threatened crisis if the corpses of their colleagues were not released to them.Eyewitnesses accounts revealed that the hoodlums refused entreaties by the hospital management to allow security agents be present before the corpses could be claimed.

According to one of the workers at the hospital who pleaded anonymity, the suspected thugs said they wouldn’t pay the hospital and that they wouldn’t wait for security agents to authorise the release of the corpses since it was the police that allegedly took them to the mortuary.Recall that two factional thugs had clashed on Tuesday in Osogbo leaving two persons dead with one injured. The fight that ensued at Asoje compound, Balogun Agoro Street, Osogbo, was said to have led to the vandalization of the residence of the Field Commandant of Amotekun Corps in the state, Amitolu Shittu.While the thugs alleged that the Amotekun corps chased and shot at them, the corps said that the thugs killed themselves during leadership tussle.

Meanwhile, the hospital management yesterday shut its gates for few minutes to prevent break down of law and order in the hospital as the hoodlums were adamant on taking the corpses without payment or security agency’s authorisation.Calm was said to have returned to the hospital and its environs when some armed security agents stormed the area as the hoodlums were dispersed.

When contacted on the telephone, Amitolu Shittu said he received information that some hoodlums invaded the hospital adding that they were harrasing doctors and  nurses on duty. He said nomalcy had returned to the hospital.
