Man in Court for allegedly assaulting IBEDC staff in Osun


A 45-year-old man, Olumide Ajakaiye, was, on Thursday, arraigned before an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting an Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) staff, while performing his lawful duty.

The prosecutor, Inspector Adeoye K, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on March 29, 2023 around 10.30 a.m. at Ayekale area in Osogbo.

Adeoye said that the defendants assaulted one Kazeem Suleiman, an IBEDC official with cutlass and inflicted injury on his left leg.

He added that the offence contravened section 355 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the one count of assault.

The Defence Counsel, Ibrahim Imran, applied for the bail of the defendants on the most liberal terms, pledging that his clients would not jump bail, but would provide substantial sureties.

Magistrate O.A Odeleye granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.

Odeleye added that the sureties must present a valid means of identification, have their residences verified by the prosecutor.

She adjourned the case until April 12, for hearing.
