Osun State Will Get Low Malaria Rate With Usage of Insecticide Treated Nets - Govt and Malaria Partners

The prevalent rate of malaria in Osun state have been predicted to become low as the state commences flag off and distribution of insecticide treated nets for malaria prevention. 

This was made known by Osun government under the leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke and malaria partners, consisting of National Malaria Elimination Program of the Federal Ministry of Health, Catholic Relief Services, Society for Family Health, CHEMONICS among others, at the flag off distribution of free insecticide treated nets in Osogbo, the state capital.

Governor Ademola Adeleke at the flag off ceremony commended the partners and organizers of the program, and the people of the state who are dwellers of the grassroot areas, for being the beneficiaries of the malaria prevention program.

The Governor represented by Prince Kola Adewusi, the Deputy Governor said the government is optimistic about health policy and program beneficial to the people, he also announced the state open to investments and declared his full support of the program.

At the flag off program which held at the Local Government Service Commission Hall at the Government Secretariat, symbolic handover of the insecticide treated nets was made to the Executive Governor of Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke by the ITN Campaign Manager Mr John Ocholi, who coordinated demonstration of sleeping inside the net but the Wife of the Governor Chief Mrs Titilola Adeleke, the NET AMBASSADOR.

In his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health, Dr Isiaka Adekunle applauded the malaria partners for their tenacity, added that the insecticide treated nets distribution started with micro planning, training and deployment of officers, movement of materials among others.

He urged all to join the fight against malaria, added that they must be ready to play their part in getting rid of malaria from their homes and the state, and country at large.

Also at the program, Net hanging demonstration was made by the State Health Educator, Mrs Bukola Oyelere, alongside the entertainment by the Nigeria Police Force Band and Osun Cultural Troupe, just as presentation of Insecticide Treated Nets was made to Pregnant women and nursing mothers present.

Other members of the Malaria Partners include: Dr Emmanuel Obi of Catholic Relief Services, Dr Anthony Nwala of Society for Family Health, Mrs Mary Ameh of CHEMONICS, Folarin Splape of National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Fakoyejo Oluwaseun of World Health Organization, and Mr Israel of UNICEF, State Primary Health Care Board among others.

In their separate goodwill messages, they all lauded the government of Governor Ademola Adeleke, and urged the people of Osun state not to just collect the ITN and keep it in their wardrobes,but to use it for purpose meant and airing it under shade for twenty four hours.
